About the Collection

This exhibit focuses on world's fairs. Now, what is a world's fair? A world's fair is an event held to celebrate the cultural, technological, and scientific achievements of countries and cultures worldwide. With the first "true" world's fair being held in 1851, a number of things we take for granted were introduced at fairs over the years. Ice cream cones, television sets, Ferris wheels, and even the Eiffel Tower! Yet today they are looked at as mere relics of the past. However, looking back at the wonders of these events, whether it be the architecture or the technology of the future or the classic midways with their thrilling rides, it is no wonder why visitors were drawn in by these spectacular events. Here, a selection of artifacts from the many world's fairs to be held over the years are exhibited for the enjoyment of all!
